Just a little good news to share from NorthStar

As you can see from Our Community page, NorthStar for Boys is very close to our hearts! And we couldn’t be happier to share some special news from them.

On December 13, 2016, a group of volunteers from HDR hosted a session at their offices with some of the NorthStar Foundation group, including: John Farmer; Jason Gentry, Jr.; Lloyd Glover; DaTeus Harris; Amani Muli; Roton Nero; Jaylon-Phillip-McDavid; Camron Wells; Andra Williams; and Jacque Williams.

In front of a full room of HDR staff, parents, and members of the NorthStar board, these gentlemen presented the plan that they’ve been working on with the HDR staff to convert their storage room into their new Leaders & Achievers Classroom. The guys did a great job of sharing their experience in working both with HDR staff and with each other.

After these NorthStar guys concluded their presentation, answered questions from those participating, they then asked permission from those present representing the HDR board to proceed with the project.  Permission was happily granted.

The biggest obstacle that the boys brought up was: How are we going to pay for this?

Great plan. Great design. Permission to move forward.

And the HDR Foundation to the rescue.

The HDR Foundation presented a very generous grant (see the boys presented with their check below) to NorthStar to support building this project. That, along with the volunteers from HDR helping the boys design the conversion, means this project is going to happen.

You can read more from the NorthStar guys on their Facebook post about this day.
