The Holidays Are Best In Omaha, But We **May** Be Biased
There’s starting to be a little nip in the air, a few flakes have been spotted, shopping centers are getting busier, and there’s a different hum in the air… It’s holiday time in Omaha. Now, we **may** be biased, but Omaha really is the best when it comes to the holidays. Entire neighborhoods decorate, plays get put on for the public, and we’ve even seen a few rogue bands of carolers out and about! NP Dodge has posted two blogs recently with different holiday events worth attending this year and news about Omaha’s new Capitol District’s holiday events. So what are some of our favorite fun things you and your family can do during the holiday season here in Omaha?
From now through Valentine’s Day, you and your family can go ice skate. Hours are up on their website. And admission fees benefit the Food Bank for the Heartland.
The Omaha Public Libraries Are Hosting MANY Holiday Events
From visits with Santa to musical specials to family festivals, you can find a lot of family-friendly activities for the holiday season on the Omaha Public Libraries website.
Santa’s Magic Wonderland At Omaha Children’s Museum
Santa’s Magic is “an enchanting winter wonderland populated by friendly characters like the Snow Queen, Holly the Elf, and, of course, Santa. An interactive program is held several times daily and includes lights, music and Santa’s magical arrival. It even snows indoors!” This event is sponsored by the ConAgra Foundation and the Shine The Light on Hunger campaign.
Christmas At Union Station
It’s a staple for so many of us in Omaha, the Durham Museum, especially with that old-timey soda fountain! The large tree right when you walk in at Christmas time makes it a delight for everyone in the family. There are even days that you can meet Santa (all Santa times and admission information is up on the Durham site).
Omaha Playhouse’s Annual Production Of A Christmas Carol
We think Omaha Playhouse’s tagline says it all: “It just isn’t Christmas without A Christmas Carol.” This Dickens tale warms hearts over the holidays and makes for a fun night out for the family.
Downtown Omaha’s Holiday Lights Festival
Produced by Mayor Jean Stothert and the Downtown Omaha Inc. Foundation; and presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, KMTV 3 News Now and STAR 104.5, the Holiday Lights Festival showcases Downtown Omaha and provides a full schedule of festive, family-friendly, holiday activities.
Village Pointe’s Santa Events
Village Pointe Shopping Center offers a wide variety of Santa events and other holiday specials at their location.
Regency Shopping Center’s Holiday Events
Regency Shopping Center boasts entertaining tutorials, christmas cookie exchanges, “meet & greets” with favorite characters, and more. Check out their website for all of the events available.
